oh, god, where to start? 

listen, i love miley for a lot of reasons, but she’s coming off as more and more racist by the day. she’s also doing this ‘shock factor’ thing lately, isn’t she? like what lady gaga would do to get as much hype as she got. i love that miley is being herself and being open and happy, but she is doing certain shock factor things and playing up to this wild child title she’s been given. i feel like that’s partially what her VMA outfit choices were all about. (was she wearing dreads? they looked like braids but i wasn’t looking too hard… sigh, miles).

but, anyway, onto what she actually said. nicki minaj has done some dumb-ass things in her time, but she was so right to recently call out taylor swift, and her VMA nomination, and now miley. miley claims the press manipulated her interview answer – it didn’t look at all manipulated. she trivialised nicki’s point by making it sound like nicki was only upset about the award, and not the bigger issue of how the media puts her down for being a confident, curvy, black woman, and more. that’s some white trash miley threw out there to defend herself. nicki knew that, but obviously producers cut her mic for obvious reasons. 

i could probably say more but i’m tired.

the point is, just because miley might identify as queer, be an ally for lgbt+, run her happy hippie foundation, other good things… doesn’t mean she’s been any less culturally appropriative lately, and lacking in the girl power for her fellow artists where it’s needed.
